Looking for a Quo (OpenPhone) alternative in the UK?

Quo, formerly OpenPhone, supplies US and Canadian numbers, not UK numbers, and does not accept UK number ports. Its support also documents UK texting restrictions. If you need a complete UK phone system, compare providers for that job. If you mainly need to recover missed calls on your existing line, Unmissed may fit.

Updated

UK location is not UK number support

Primary sources checked : Quo’s number availability, porting eligibility and international messaging restrictions. These are documentation checks, not live carrier tests. Confirm current support before switching.

Can you use Quo in the UK?

Yes, being physically in the UK does not by itself rule it out. Quo says people outside the US and Canada can use its US and Canadian local and toll-free numbers. That is different from supplying a UK number. OpenPhone rebranded to Quo, so both names refer to the same product.

  • UK number supply: Quo’s number documentation says it does not support numbers outside the US and Canada.
  • UK number porting: its porting guide excludes international numbers outside the US and Canada. You cannot port a UK number in under that documented service.
  • Calling the UK: calling a destination is separate from getting a local number there. Check international calling permissions, destinations and charges with Quo for your use case.
  • UK texting: its international messaging page lists United Kingdom (+44) texting as unavailable and describes outbound messages to UK numbers as generally blocked or filtered. Do not assume dependable delivery or two-way replies.

The messaging page also says “UK to UK” domestic messaging works normally. That wording does not establish a supported Quo UK-number route, given its number restrictions. The documentation is ambiguous on this point. Ask Quo to confirm the exact sending number, UK destination and reply path before relying on it; we have not tested them. This is not a claim that every individual text must fail.

A phone-system alternative or a missed-call recovery tool?

If you need new numbers, everyday outbound calling, call routing or a replacement for your team’s phones, evaluate a full phone system. If your existing phones work and the gap is acknowledging missed callers and getting a teammate to call back, a narrower recovery service may be enough. Unmissed is in that second category, not a complete Quo replacement.

Quo already offers auto-replies for missed calls, voicemail and texts, including after-hours variants. Its documented safeguards include one auto-reply per contact per three hours and suppression after recent contact. It also offers shared calls, messages, voicemail and history, plus internal threads, mentions and action items. Text back and collaboration are not unique to Unmissed.

What should I check before choosing?Number geography, UK messaging, plan gates and the exact calling workflow.Forwarding support and charges, caller coverage, agreed beta limits and team availability.

Quo’s Sona documentation describes an AI agent that answers questions from a knowledge base, takes messages and transfers calls. If you need live answering, assess that job separately, including availability and plan requirements. “Not verified” above means we did not establish an identical workflow, not that Quo lacks follow-up tools.

Other UK options worth checking

For a broader system, Ringover describes its own telephony and integrations, while Dialpad describes its voice, video, messaging and contact-centre platform. These are starting points for a full-system shortlist, not endorsements or confirmation that every UK number, port or SMS workflow is supported. Ask each provider about your exact number type, destinations and plan.

For narrower recovery workflows, CallBack advertises forwarding from an existing business mobile, automatic texts, two-way replies in a dashboard and business-hours messages. It explicitly says network and plan support varies. Line advertises a UK number, missed-call texts from its business number and replies beside calls in a team inbox, including different out-of-hours messages. Existing-number port eligibility and equivalent named ownership or timed escalation were not verified on that Line page.

These providers’ own pages were checked on 27 October 2026, not tested hands-on. Shared replies and guided setup are not exclusive advantages. Compare the actual workflow you need, rather than assuming one service is best for every business. We have not ranked paid plans.

Where Unmissed fits, and where it does not

Unmissed suits a small UK business that wants to keep its number and phones and has people available to return calls. A missed mobile caller gets a friendly text within 5 seconds, with replies beside the original call in the shared missed call inbox. That is stated product behaviour, not a network-delivery guarantee.

Someone on your team owns the callback. The team is nudged after 5 minutes without ownership; at 15 minutes during opening hours the owner gets a text on their own mobile. Nudges are not guaranteed callback times. After hours, a message sets expectations and the callback clock starts when you next open.

  • Landline callers: get a voice-based response or callback route rather than an assumed SMS.
  • Withheld callers: are prompted to leave a number. Without one, you may have no way to reach them.
  • Not a fit: if you need a new phone system, live receptionist conversations, automated bookings or a service to make callbacks instead of your team.

For definitions and message examples, read how missed call text back works. For the line setup, check UK call-divert options and charges. Forwarding keeps the existing number with your provider; it is not a promise that texts are sent from that same number. We check support, charges and a real call together during assisted setup.

Before choosing: test your exact workflow

Use this checklist with any provider. These are questions to verify, not a list of confirmed Unmissed controls:

  1. Number and forwarding: will you keep, port or replace the number? Check network and plan support, divert charges and what happens to voicemail.
  2. Texts and replies: what sender number appears? Can the caller reply, where does it land, and what happens with repeated calls or opt-outs?
  3. Caller coverage: test mobile, landline, withheld and relevant international callers rather than assuming every caller gets SMS.
  4. Team coverage: who owns each callback, who covers absence, and what changes during closing hours and holidays?
  5. Terms and data: confirm usage limits, ongoing charges, privacy, retention and access arrangements before sending customer information.
  6. Real-call test: check the unanswered call, acknowledgement, reply and human callback end to end before relying on the setup.

We ask for a 30-minute research chat and short monthly feedback calls. Read the beta offer, sign up by email, then complete onboarding and choose a call time. Questions

Checking whether missed-call recovery is enough? Email us and we’ll help you sort it.

Is OpenPhone now Quo?

Yes. OpenPhone rebranded to Quo. They are the same product under its former and current names, not two separate alternatives.

Can I use Quo while based in the UK?

Quo says people outside the US and Canada can use its US and Canadian numbers. Being in the UK is different from getting a UK number or having a supported UK texting workflow. Check the number, destination and reply path with Quo before relying on it.

Can I get or port a UK number with Quo?

Not under the documentation checked on 27 October 2026. Quo supports US and Canadian numbers and excludes international ports outside the US and Canada. Calling a UK destination is a different question from supplying or porting a UK number.

Can Quo text UK numbers?

Its international messaging page lists United Kingdom (+44) texting as unavailable and says outbound UK messages are generally blocked or filtered. It also says domestic UK messaging works normally, without establishing a supported Quo UK-number route. Ask Quo to confirm your exact workflow; do not assume reliable delivery or two-way replies.

Does Quo have missed-call auto-replies?

Yes. Quo documents missed-call, voicemail and incoming-text auto-replies, including after-hours variants. It also has shared inboxes and internal collaboration. Those features do not remove its documented number-geography and UK messaging restrictions.

Does Unmissed replace a complete Quo phone system?

No. Unmissed is missed-call recovery: mobile text acknowledgement, replies beside the call and team-owned callbacks. It does not replace your phone system, answer calls as your business or make bookings for you. Your own people handle replies and make the callbacks.

Can I keep my existing number with Unmissed?

Yes, through call forwarding rather than porting your number to Unmissed. You keep your number and phones. We check provider support and divert charges and test a real call together. Not every caller can receive a text or be reached afterwards.

What does joining the Unmissed beta involve?

It is free during the beta, including setup, with no card needed. We agree usage limits and terms before setup and ask for a 30-minute research chat and short monthly feedback calls. After email signup, complete onboarding and choose a call time; we call within one working day. Signup is not instant activation.
